Nestled in the Rocky Mountains, Aspen, Co sits just below 8000 ft above sea level. Originally founded as a mining camp and named for the abundance of Aspen trees in the area the town has become a popular tourist destination for those looking for outdoor adventure.
During the winter months the area is covered in snow. Get out and go skiing, snowshoeing, snowmobiling, sleigh riding, or sledding.
Although there isn’t usually snow in the summer there’s still plenty to do. Hiking fishing, biking, paragliding, golfing, and white water rafting are just some of the activities you’ll find in Aspen.
Home to over a hundred restaurants there are plenty of options for whatever cuisine you might be interested. Try the award winning Japanese food at Matsuhisia, have a late night Italian dinner at Mezzaluna, wake up to breakfast at bb’s Kitchen, or try out the many bakeries for dessert or pubs for a drink.
Interested in a day out of shopping? Aspen is the place for you. Downtown is full of a variety of sporting goods, art, antiques, and clothing stores. Check out the pedestrian only street for t-shirts and souvenirs or visit the Snowmass Village only twenty minutes away for candy stores, clothing boutiques, and gift shops. During the summer check out the outdoor market which sells fresh Colorado grown produce.
Arts and Culture
Take a break from the slopes and take a look at the many art galleries downtown. Plan a night at the Wheeler Opera House or Theater Aspen for a live performance. During the summer visit the art and jazz festivals held annually in Aspen.
